3 Tips on How to Refresh Your Technology in the New Year
A new year is here, so that means a fresh start! That includes refreshing your technology!
Here are 3 tips on how to refresh your technology in the new year!
Recycle Old Devices
Keeping old and unused devices hanging around is expensive and could be a security risk! Take your old tech to a licensed recycler for destruction, this can include anything from mice to hard drives! Make sure to get a certificate of destruction for anything that could have sensitive data on it.
This is a great time to start an inventory of your technology as well! A quick reference guide complete with date purchased, serial numbers, brand and warranty information will go a long way to keeping you organized in the new year!
Check if Warranties Will be Expiring Soon
Even if you don’t have a complete device inventory, make sure you're keeping track of your devices and their warranties! You never know when you may need to replace a device and you’ll need that warranty information on hand. Technology fails all the time, mostly at the worst time, and not knowing if you device is under warranty or not will make that loss much more softly to your time and money.
Having a warranty means support will be covered to an extent to troubleshoot whatever issues you are having with your device and can even mean getting your device completely replaced if necessary! If your device does not have a warranty or it’s expired, that means you will be covering the cost yourself. Keep track of those warranties because you never know when they may come in handy!
Clean Up Old Files and Profiles
The new year is great time to clean up some space on your computer! Incase you needed it, this is your sign to purge some of those old files that have been lingering on your computer! Look through your documents, downloads and picture folders and delete things that are no longer useful. Do a check up on software that your computer is running as well, do you still need those programs that never get used? Last but not least, make sure to clean up that recycle bin from all those files you just got rid of.
And while we’re on the topic of cleaning up and organizing your files, the new year is a great time to make the switch to Microsoft’s OneDrive for storing your files in the cloud!
