Gone are the days of phones holding you back, not only metaphorically but physically. Have you ever missed a call while running back to your desk? Or do you remember the days when phones had spiral cords attached to them and you couldn’t walk away? Technology advancements are more than just the latest and greatest cell phone. We have advanced in quality, speed, distance, and VoIP.

What is VoIP?

VoIP (noun: digital technology)

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP): a technology or set of standards for the delivery of telephone calls and other voice communications over the internet, involving conversion of analog voice signals to digital form.

In other words, VoIP allows you to make calls over the internet and not the traditional phone lines. You also don’t need a physical desk phone to use VoIP. VoIP is considered a softphone because it runs over software and as such, can be used with a desk phone, on your cell phone without using your cell number, and even on your computer.

There are many VoIP services available but in today’s blog, we are going over a 1-day diary of using 3CX from home. When the pandemic hit it changed the way we work drastically. Tamara, an employee of 3CX living in Cyprus, explains in her blog what a day looks like when you suddenly are working from home, and the benefits she saw using the 3CX VoIP solution. 3CX is not only a market leader in VoIP solutions and call reliability but also boasts unparalleled flexibility and cost savings.

Working Remotely with 3CX (Infotect’s take-away)

  • Try to stay on a normal schedule! If you are used to taking lunch at a certain time, try to keep that consistent. It is easy to overdo it when you’re working from home. Set time barriers and respect other's time by not calling them too early or late.

  • Give yourself time to stay organized. Tamara states she uses “Trello to organize the day’s tasks.” Find a solution that works for you to stay organized. At Infotect we use platforms that are part of our Microsoft license, such as To-Do, tasks, lists, planner, project, OneNote, & Teams. You probably have access to these platforms as well, at no extra cost.

  • Stay connected with your team. Simple good morning messages and team meetings to celebrate together will keep the collaboration going strong. It may seem harder to work together as a team, but it is important to take the time for feedback and support. Use the chat feature in 3CX or use the web meeting function. Utilize the platforms you already have, to stay connected.

  • At the end of the day make sure to turn off and mark your status to “away”. Just because you can continue working doesn’t mean you should. Working from home can be hard, so give yourself a break by maintaining your work/life balance.

This pandemic has been hard. Make sure to celebrate the little wins and use the tools you have, to make your life easier not more stressful. To read Tamara’s full-day diary click here, https://www.3cx.com/blog/unified-communications/working-remotely-with-3cx-diary/.
